The Most Unique And Hassle-Free Tree in Your Garden!

This tree will stand out in your landscape as a prize possession. There’s no other tree like the Weeping Persimmon. Standing at 25-30 ft., this tree grows in a columnar shape with a spread of only 5-10 ft. The branches fall down in a weeping fashion, while still maintaining the tight columnar form. You will be fascinated by this majestic tree’s one-of-a-kind shape.

Taking care of this tree is unbelievably easy. A little bit of water and a little bit of fertilizer is all the Weeping Persimmon needs in the first years of its life. A simple routine of caring for this tree in its youth will lead you to a lifetime of having this visually striking beauty in your yard.

The Weeping Persimmon will probably outlive you. Most Weeping Persimmons live up to 75 years, which means your family will get to enjoy this remarkable tree for years to come.

Not only is the shape spectacular, but the colors are also widely stunning. The early spring will give you thick jade-green leaves that begin to produce magnificent urn-shaped ivory flowers as spring progresses. The leaves then begin to turn into spectacular shades of fire engine red, vibrant yellows and deep oranges. You may even get bright orange fruit hanging from bare branches in the winter.

You might just get to taste the sweetest fruit you’ve ever had. Though the Weeping Persimmon is technically a self-fertile tree, they only produce a big harvest with two or more trees. Thankfully, planting and growing couldn’t be easier…especially when you get these sweet rewards.

Persimmons are not only sweet they are incredibly healthy. If your tree bares the tempting fruit, don’t be fooled by the sweetness. Persimmons have lycopene, lutein and a host of vitamins that will help you maintain excellent health.

The Persimmon is abundant in the wild, but not in your neighbor’s yard. Many homeowners are only now discovering the appeal of the unique and fascinating Weeping Persimmon. Though persimmons commonly grow in the wild in Southern states, it was only recently that people began to see the benefits of growing one for themselves.

The trend is catching on so don’t hesitate. This incredible tree will stand out in your yard as a unique and magnificent showpiece. The weeping, columnar shape, and the vibrant colors will mesmerize your family and friends. Don’t let your neighbors beat you to it!

Planting & Care

Planting Instructions: Plant your tree in a hole about 3 times the size of the pot it comes in. Mix the soil with 50% compost. Be sure to plant in a place with full sun. Make sure your Weeping Persimmon’s topmost roots sit at the soil line. Add 4-6 inches of mulch around the base of the trunk, leaving a couple of inches of empty space between the trunk and the edge of the mulch.

Watering: Weeping Persimmons need a good amount of water in their first year. If you have clay soil, you only need to water your tree once a week. Light soils will need watering twice a week. In either case, you need to deeply water the roots for about 40 minutes. Your tree should receive around 1 inch of water each week. If you are having an especially dry season, you’ll need to water more frequently. Fruit drop indicates that you need more irrigation for your Weeping Persimmon.

Fertilization: Fertilize your tree each year with a 10-10-10 w/minerals fertilizer. You will need 1 cup for each year of the tree’s life. For example, a 2-year-old tree will need 2 cups total for the entire year. Spread the fertilizer evenly under the entire tree canopy starting with 5 inches out from the trunk and moving to the edge of the canopy. Proceed to water or rake in the fertilizer. After 3 years, switch to low nitrogen fertilizer and apply once a year in February (Zones 8-9) or March (4-7).

Pruning: There’s no need to prune your Weeping Persimmon. If you want to maintain a certain shape, feel free to prune as needed. If you harvest fruit from the tree, you can prune an open center for easier access to the fruit. You can also remove large branches in the center for better airflow throughout the tree.

Pests and Diseases: Good watering habits, feeding and removing rotten fruit and dead branches should prevent any infestation or disease.

Harvesting Fruit: You will need to leave the fruit on the branch until it is very squishy and jelly like. Persimmons that are still firm are not ripe and will be extremely astringent. Waiting until the fruit is fully ripe will give you an extremely sweet fruit that is often compared to the flavor of maple jelly. If your tree produces fruit and it falls from the branch, clean up the fruit to prevent pests and diseases.
